About us

OUR IDENTITY

International Social Service - West Africa (ISS-WA) was created in 2012 in Burkina Faso. It is registered in Senegal with the status of International Organization in 2018. ISS-WA aims at human development, through the protection of children as well as the strengthening of the capacity of families and communities to improve their self-care and protection. It serves as technical support for its different partners. ISS-WA is based in Dakar, Senegal, with a staff composed of professionals from all over West Africa, for the implementation of its main activities and its transversal action

International Social Service is an international network established in 1924 and active in more than 140 countries. Our ethics are based on the universal and indiscriminate respect for human dignity. Our values are those defined in the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the 1989 Convention on the Rights of the Child and embodied in SOLIDARITY and RECIPROCITY. ISS-WA aims to work in West Africa to strengthen the ISS network in this region and to promote social work especially at the transnational level.

ISS-WA has been recognised as a member of the International Federation of Educative Communities (FICE) and its Director is the President of FICE-West Africa who will have the role of accompanying members in the region to develop tools and strategies for an effective care of children at the institutional level, but above all at the family and community level.

ISS-WA is part of the Regional Child Protection Group which meets every month in Dakar (Senegal). This group assists ECOWAS as well as States and actors in the field in the definition of policies but also in the implementation and monitoring of global actions in child protection.
