COMMUNIQUE ON THE WEST AFRICA NETWORK FOR CHILD PROTECTION (WAN) PLANNING MEETING, JULY 24 AND 25, 2017 IN DAKAR, SENEGAL

The meeting was held at the Good Rade Hotel in Dakar on July 24 and 25, 2017. It was co-organized by ECOWAS, the West Africa International Social Service (ISS-AO), and Enda Youth Action. , coordinating structure of RAO Senegal

The West Africa Network for the Protection of Children (RAO), enters a new phase in this year 2017. In order to put all the actors of the Network at the same level of understanding of this new stage, the annual meeting of coordinations has coupled with a two-day meeting to plan Network activities for the next three years; it has recorded the effective presence of state focal points (mobility) of member countries, heads of national co-ordinations, representatives of other structures and organizations for the protection of children’s rights, and of course ECOWAS

As important results of this meeting, we can note:

The definition of the role and responsibilities of State focal points; these focal points that come from national state services will now be part of the national coordination, hence the need to define their role and responsibilities.
The adoption of Peer Review indicators on the protection of children and young people in mobility; this review began at the meeting of the Steering Committee (Copil) 2016 in Abidjan, Ivory Coast and will be annually under the auspices of the Gender and Social Affairs Commission of ECOWAS
Strategic planning of the 2017 – 2020 RAO
The development of a plan of collaboration with the African Movement of Working Children and Youth (AMWCY)

At this meeting, the French version of the “Procedures for the Care and Standards of ECOWAS for the Protection and Reintegration of Vulnerable Children Affected by Mobility and Young Migrants”, officially launched during the 2016 Copil, was also presented to partners, pending the Portuguese version being finalized
